Fast Fashion Killers Manifesto
Because the act of purposefully purchasing to quickly dispose should make our stomachs turn!
Because we as young consumers should not feel the need to purchase trends around the clock in order to seek approval from our peers AND THEREFORE should not be socially defined by our unwillingness to conform to the greed of fashion corporations.
Because Mother Earth is dying right in front of us before we even have time to explore, save, and restore all of her beauty, WE care about global warming issues and understand how our carbon footprints and the footprints of companies we support affect OUR Earth.
Because the ethics of fast fashion companies is morally wrong, in the respect of horrible workplace standards that cause harm to underage and underpaid factory workers INCLUDING causing harm to the homes and developing cities that these companies have destroyed with a blind eye.
Because we must take control now for the future of our children to end the amount of waste we produce and chemicals we put into the Earth from the production and throwing out of these clothes BEFORE we as young consumers decide to not bring a child into this shitty world.
Because we should not need to feel bad about purchasing items that were once used and LOVED by others as second-hand consumerism should be praised by everyone AND the stereotype that second-hand goods are only for those in poor financial situations needs to be shattered.
Because we are interested in prolonging the lifecycle of all goods and seek to give items a second life in a second home.
Because we are angry at a society that tells us that we MUST CONSUME and that if we do not purchase the newest trends then we are living under a rock, rocking old trends, trending only to the trendless.
Because we should all believe that purchasing fast fashion is not a sustainable practice AND THUS should seek to educate others on the meaning of sustainability and do our own research prior to shopping a brand.
Because one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
Because there are already so many AMAZING second-hand shops and websites in this world that we as consumers can purchase everything we would want from the current season in a more sustainable way to keep our fashion wardrobe up-to-date.
Because shopping second-hand is like having best friend’s from all around the world with different life adventures and experiences whose closets you and shop, wear out, and keep AND THEY ARE NOT full of old grandma type clothes that are out of style with no hopes to be trending again anytime soon in this lifetime.
Because we should not reward those that post on social media in fast fashion brands while posing in beautiful places WHILE their consumerism actions are simultaneously destroying their unreal backdrop.
Because I believe that fashion is in need of a top to bottom and bottom to top revolutions and that this change will only come to light if WE as people who love to express ourselves through the material trappings of fashion can make a conscious effort to purchase more sustainably in the way that works best for us.
Because we only have ONE Earth and our SHARED actions can either be the destruction or construction of future generations.
